Art Themen, a previous winner in the tenor sax category of the British Jazz Awards, toured the world fronting Stan Tracey’s quartet for 20 years and has been featured with most jazz musicians on the British jazz scene plus a veritable Who’s Who of visiting Americans. Outside jazz he’s accompanied such diverse artists as Mick Jagger, George Harrison, Rod Stewart, Jack Bruce, Joe Cocker, Chuck Berry, Alexis Korner, and even Bing Crosby! He’s the recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and last year was shortlisted for jazz musician of the year in the Parliamentary Jazz awards. For six months during Covid lockdown he played a series of mini concerts to entertain his neighbours, (and keep himself sane!) and couple of years ago he was fortunate enough to acquire the saxophone previously owned by Ronnie Scott which he’ll be bringing along to Lowestoft.
“Themen is one of the very few totally original, utterly engaging jazz musicians around”. Dave Gelly – The Observer.
Art will be playing alongside his regular musical compadres, Denny Ilett, an internationally known guitarist vocalist and educator, and the multitalented bass player Andy Crowdy.
